Breaking the Usual

Change can be frightening, whether it’s a dramatic change or a little change. We as humans are so used to doing the same thing, every day, every week and every year. We experience different types of changes every single day. Whether that is moving schools or just changing your style for a day.

Change is scary, you don’t know what it holds. You don’t know what is ahead but the only way to find out is to move forward. Don’t be afraid of changing or trying something new, you may be losing something good but you may be gaining something excellent. Try something new, anything is possible.

If you had asked me two years ago what an entrepreneur was and what they do, I honestly would have no clue. Without knowing anything about this program, I got the offer to sign up. And well, I did. When you believe you should take any opportunity that’s given to you, this one worked out for me. Why did I sign up for TYE though? I over thought to signing up at the time, due to homework, sport and having a job. I knew it was going to be a lot but it was a challenge that I took up.

Reading the announcement/notice on my school bulletin, I wondered to myself. Could I do this? Is it worth it? You should not be asking yourself if you can do it, ask if you will do it and you should be doing it. There are many reasons to try new things, increasing your confidence, appreciate yourself, learning new skills and breaking out of your usual routine.

Being a student ambassador for TYE 2017, I’ve gotten the chance to go around to different schools giving presentations, making letters and being in the news trying to get students interested in the program. Seeing students intrigued and excited about this program, it was a positive response that we wanted to hear. I asked them why they joined.

Here’s what they had to say.

“ I joined TYE2017 for the adventure and learning experience. As a high school student, the opportunity to apply theory learned in the classroom outside of it comes about rarely. TYE is once in a lifetime opportunity to grow in my entrepreneur skills, but also as a person- with effects far greater than that of the workshops, that I can take from and apply to every other aspect of my life to give me an edge opposed to those around me. “

-Krystal-Alexandra Johnstone (TYE 2017 Participant)

“I signed up to TYE to broaden my knowledge of how people start and manage businesses in the modern age. I signed up to absorb as much information as possible from the rich wealth of experience offered by each individual mentor and workshop. It feels it is important for me to make the most of every single one of these opportunities to carry the knowledge into the future, where I can apply it in a practical sense.”

-Grady Tyson (TYE 2017 Participant)

If you ever get an opportunity like this or any program, in fact, take it. What do you have to lose? Go out there and challenge yourself to try new things! You won’t regret it! Now, just do it. You never what you’re capable of until you try.
